In honor of today being 4/20 (2025) — and fresh off the high of devouring the best carrot cake of my life — what better way to celebrate the vibes than by reminiscing on some of the most munchie-worthy meals I’ve had in Mérida, Mexico?
This city has truly spoiled me with flavor. From street-side bites to seaside breakfasts, I’ve tasted dishes that made me pause, smile, and feel a little more alive.
1. Carrot Cake Dreams – Tere Cazola

First up — the main event. This carrot cake stole the show and my heart. For just $10 USD (200 pesos), you get 8 slices of pure, moist, perfectly spiced magic. Not too sweet, just right. Tere Cazola is a cozy little bakery with a few indoor seats, perfect for a midday treat or a peaceful coffee + cake moment. You can also order from them on Rappi for fast delivery. 10/10 Recommend. There is also the option to order a whole carrot cake, which I have for a party, and although still delicious I believe the smaller cuts pictured below are more moist and delightful.
🧁 Mood: Sweet bite with a side of nostalgia.
2. Crunchy, Spicy, and Budget-Friendly Sushi – Sensei Yatta

When I’m on a tight budget or craving sushi, I hit up Sensei Yatta. I usually go for the spicy tuna rolls (around 200 pesos/$10) or the chicken fried rice — which you can customize with shrimp, steak, or just veggies. Rappi often has a deal where the rice is just 30 pesos, plus the protein (25–55 pesos extra). The portions are always well-sized and tasty. It’s always a win whenever I’m trying to save a few dollars.

9/10 recommend.
3. Pancakes by the Sea – La Casa del Pastel, Progreso Beach

Banana-blueberry pancakes topped with oats and drizzled with honey… on the beach? Yes, please. Moist but balanced, these were the best pancakes I’ve had — ever. I went here for my birthday with 9 friends, and everyone left full and happy. 10/10 recommend!
🥞 Mood: Sea breeze, sunshine, and sweet bites of heaven.
4. Birria Tacos & Panuchos Love – Taquería El Nero

If you’re in the mood for something hearty, this spot has you covered. Their birria tacos are rich and juicy, and their Panuchos — a local Yucatecan favorite. The corn tortillas are stuffed with refried black beans and then fried. Then they’re topped with chicken and the usual fixings like avocado, lettuce, tomatoes, and pickled red onions.are packed with flavor. Perfect after a long walk or a chill sesh. 8.2/10
🌮 Mood: Messy fingers, full belly, happy heart.

5. Chamoy Mango Smoothie – Bejar Coffee
located inside the Parque La Plancha food court, Bejar Coffee serves the most refreshing chamoy mango smoothie I’ve had in Mérida. Sweet, tangy, spicy, icy — all the flavors in one dreamy cup. 10/10
🥭 Mood: Sun-kissed, sipping, and vibing.

6. Clean, Green & Delicious – Vitology
For when I’m eating clean (or pretending to), Vitology delivers. Their burritos and salad bowls are fresh and filling. With the choice to customize your burrito and salad bowl with a variety of healthy options. I also tried the vegan banana cupcake — not bad — but the burrito and salad? Chef’s kiss.
Their juices are pure and perfect, no added sugar or ingredients.
Oh, and it comes with a whole burrito, I just ate the other half before taking this picture.
10/10 recommend if you enjoy pure ingredients only.
🥗 Mood: Health and fitness goodness.

7. Acai & Avocado Toast – Jajajana

This vegan café in Centro has some solid favorites: a delicious avocado toast and an acai bowl that’s topped with strawberries, bananas, coconut, and granola. Each bite feels like a spa day for your taste buds. About 200 pesos total for both.
Overall rating 8.9
🍓 Mood: Light, bright, and beautifully balanced.
8. Burgers with a Twist – Kuro Black Burger

Ever tried a burger on a black bun? I did — twice. I had the Shiitake Burger (174 pesos) and the Veggie Burger (153 pesos), both served with crispy potato wedges. While I wasn’t in love with the bun itself, the concept is cool, and overall I’d give it a 7.8/10.
🍔 Mood: Bold bites with a side of edgy aesthetic.
9. Smash Hit & Sweet Finish – Wagú Smash Burger
These Wagyu burgers are juicy, flavorful, and perfectly messy. I ordered a single-patty burger (140 pesos, no fries), deep-fried Oreos (109 pesos), and fries (75 pesos). Everything hit. The music was poppin’ — hip hop and R&B made the vibe even better.
Unfortunately I didn’t take a picture of my mouthwatering smash burger, but I would highly recommend trying this spot. There are a few locations, the one I went to was on Calle 45 20, San Ramón Nte.
I would rate the food and the vibes a 8.9
🎶 Mood: Burger bliss with a side of vibes.

10. Wine Bar Sip & Chill – Anónima
Anónima is a vibe. Between the elegant indoor space and breezy outdoor seating, it’s the kind of place you could accidentally stay all night. I tried both the house red and white with their ceviche-style mushrooms — light, citrusy, and so good. The staff (and owner) are incredibly welcoming, and the bar setup is genius: you can even order from the outdoor window. 10/10 recommend this spot.
🍷 Mood: Wine down, kick back, repeat.

Whether you’re into fresh vegan bowls, juicy burgers, decadent desserts, or a smooth glass of wine — Mérida has something to satisfy every craving. This city knows how to show up for your appetite, no matter what you’re into. And on a day like today, when the vibes are high and the munchies are real, I couldn’t think of a better place to be.
